The lawyer Meredith Firtag who represents Cassie Ventura has expressed strong disapproval of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ video apology. Footage from 2016 that shows a violent encounter between Diddy and Cassie at the Los Angeles InterContinental Hotel was released prior to the video.
The 2016 Incident
Surveillance footage reveals Diddy pursuing Cassie through the hotel hallway as he pulls her down and kicks her before trying to pull her back into a room. Public release of the recordings in May 2023 confirmed Cassie’s accusations she made in her November 2023 legal filing. Cassie brought forth allegations against Diddy for enduring rape and abuse during their years-long relationship which concluded in 2018. Although the accusations against him were serious Diddy first rejected every single charge.
The Impact of Diddy’s Apology

Diddy released a video apology admitting his actions and expressing regret after he had previously denied any wrongdoing for many years. The video showed him admitting he reached “rock bottom,” began therapy sessions, and declared his ambition to improve himself. Cassie’s legal representative rejected Diddy’s apology as disingenuous and claimed it served to protect his public image rather than demonstrate real contrition.
Firtag claimed Diddy’s apology seemed self-serving because it only surfaced after undeniable evidence appeared. She pointed out that Diddy’s apology failed to properly address the damage done to Cassie and other women who had accused him.
The Lawsuit and Settlement
Cassie and Diddy reached an undisclosed settlement after her lawsuit. Diddy’s lawyers said that the settlement didn’t mean he was admitting guilt but Cassie wanted to find peace through the settlement so she could feel empowered again.
The case demonstrates how high-profile abuse allegations are complex while prompting serious questions about accountability and public apology sincerity.
