If you wear your wig often, a wig stand works best. A wig stand allows the cap to breathe and the fibers to fall properly, and should eliminate odor and keep the wig bacteria-free. If you are putting it away for any length of time, especially if you rotate between wigs, you may want to use a silk or satin bag, or at the very least, use tissue paper to lower the chances of deformation in a box. Always make sure the wig is clean and dried before putting it away, to eliminate mildew or filaments of fiber being broken down while in storage.
Be mindful of heat and humidity — never store your wig in bright sunlight, near radiators, or in a bathroom that gets too steamy. If you are traveling, a travel wig case or collapsible stand is perfect to avoid the shape of the wig being crushed. When storing your wig, always detangle gently by starting at the ends.
For many wig wearers, how we store the wig can make the difference between polished and worn-out. The more to you can treat the wig like a piece of clothing and not an afterthought the more you can help it last and be ready for your next courageous step out of the door.
