During Paris Fashion Week’s great conclusion, Chanel reminded us again why its show remains a world event, not a display. Against a sky of large galaxies hanging off its catwalk, the French house asked its viewers to rise, and upward. Cosmic, its theme; unlimited, its vision, and its message unmistakable: fashion’s future is about changing things.

This winter’s Chanel lineup mixed timeless elegance with a flight of fancy. Tailored coats and A-line skirts intersected iridescent materials, embroidery, and starlit colors of blue, yellow, and purple. It was a reference to houses past, but a jump into the void, a move both lyrical and new-fashioned.
The air at the Grand Palais Éphémère crackled. With dimming lights and slowly orbiting planets hanging overhead, the models moved as if orbiting a new world of fashion, a new world recast by bravery and imagination. The audience applauded a standing ovation to bid a memorable closing to Paris Fashion Week.
Against a season of seismic shift across the fashion world, Chanel’s presentation was a refresher course reminder: amidst a changing galaxy, timeless chic still leads the pack.
